Man United have activated the one-year contract extension clause in the contract of Victor Lindelof.

Manchester United Football Club have been struggling defensively this term. A large portion of those issues is down to injuries and inconsistency.

A constant chopping and changing of the back four has made it tough for Erik ten Hag to work out his best team, with several first-team regulars missing for prolonged periods.

I’d argue that over the last twelve months, Victor Lindelof has been United’s most consistent defender. He ended last term in great form following Licha Martinez’s injury, while he had been a mainstay in the side this season until his recent surgery.

As a result, the ‘Ice Man’ has seen his contract extended at Old Trafford. United have now activated a one-year extension clause in the 29-year-old’s deal, according to The Athletic. As a result, the Swede is under contract until 2025.

Lindelof remains United’s most-used centre-back this season, playing eighteen games and honestly looking like the Reds’ most reliable defender. It comes at a time where Lindelof was likely fighting for his Old Trafford career following a few years of hit and miss displays. He deserves massive credit for turning things around.

Whether this is a deal just to ensure that Lindelof’s transfer value remains high, or whether Ten Hag is truly intent on keeping him around remains to be seen. I’d like to think it’s the latter as the Ice Man has certainly been effective under the current manager.

Hopefully, Lindelof is back fit and firing soon. We’re going to need him in the second half of the season.
