Man United add Luis Enrique to permanent manager shortlist: report

Man United have made Spain manager, Luis Enrique, a candidate for the manager’s job.

Ralf Rangnick is doing a pretty decent job at Manchester United. Our performances are certainly better anyway, let’s hope the results start to follow suit soon.

Behind the scenes, the hunt for a permanent manager goes on. It’s a decision the board simply have to get 100% correct if we’re serious about challenging for major honours in the not too distant future.

Names like Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag seem to crop up pretty often, though a new face has been thrown into the mix, ESPN report. That face? Luis Enrique.

The Spaniard is currently in charge of the Spanish national side, as they gear up for the World Cup later this year. However, United are seemingly impressed with the work he’s doing.

The 51-year-old manager has been added to United’s shortlist of candidates, with the Reds believing he has the ‘technical credentials and winning track record to bring success back to Old Trafford.

Enrique has a reputation as a top-class player and elite-level coach. He’s done well across the board, though back in November, the Spaniard did dismiss reports linking him with the vacant United job.

You look at Enrique’s exploits and he definitely deserves to be in contention for the job. However, I doubt he’d be willing to leave the Spain national side until after the World Cup in November. That could be problematic, as United would have to pass up on both Poch and Ten Hag this summer – while also looking to extend Ralf Rangnick’s managerial contract for another six months.

I do like the fact that United are exploring every viable option. However, it just feels like there are far too many stumbling blocks in regards to hiring Luis Enrique.

Would Luis Enrique be a good hire for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
