Man United have added six players to their Europa League ‘B List’ ahead of the game vs Real Sociedad tonight.
Man United begin their Europa League campaign later, with the Red Devils looking to get off to a good start against arguably their toughest group opponent; Real Sociedad.
Erik ten Hag will view this tournament as an opportunity to not only rest his senior players, but give minutes to others that deserve them, while looking to go on and win the competition.
Ahead of the opening match of the group stage later today, United have confirmed that they’ve added six youngsters to their Europa League squad.
Four of whom played a huge part in United’s FA Youth Cup-winning run last season; Radek Vitek, Tyler Fredricson, Kobbie Mainoo and Charlie McNeill.
The other two names are more well-known; Zidane Iqbal and Shola Shoretire are also now on the ‘B List’, which is used for homegrown players who are now eligible to play in European competition. First-team regular, Anthony Elanga, is also named on the B list as he still fits the criteria.
It just goes to show how much strength in depth United have at youth level. This club has always prided itself on giving the next generation their chance and that mantra doesn’t look like ending anytime soon.
I guess time will tell how often these young players will be given the opportunity to play in the Europa League, particularly as there are several first-team players who also need to get minutes in the tank in these sort of matches. I’d like to think they’ll be a good mix of youth and experience named in the starting XI for our six group stage games.
Do you think we’ll see any of these young players feature in the Europa League for Man United this season? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
