The summer started well for Manchester United, with deals for Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka pushed through nice and early. Things went rather quiet following that, though.
Now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and company are back at Old Trafford following their pre-season tour, it seems as though things are picking up speed once again.
This morning, the Daily Mirror, translating a story from Corriere dello Sport, gave us a huge update on the Red Devils’ proposed move for Bruno Fernandes.
Apparently, a £63m fee has been agreed with Sporting to sign the attacking midfielder, with the prolific 24-year-old set to fly into the United Kingdom to undergo his Manchester United medical…
Furthermore, this move will not affect any proposal to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio, who is feeling more and more like a potential Paul Pogba replacement with each passing day.
Anyway, back to the matter-at-hand. Fernandes’ impressive goal tally of 32 last season, while tacking on 18 assists, explains why he’d cost so much. The Reds have a real void in midfield and Fernandes could certainly fill that gap, but he would need time to settle in the Premier League, there’s no doubt about that.
We’re talking about someone who is mentally tough, though. Despite reports about his future, Fernandes has either scored or assisted every single one of Sporting’s seven pre-season goals so far. I find that absolutely staggering.
Hopefully, a deal can be wrapped up in the not too distant future. If I’m being greedy, I’d still like to see Fernandes and one more player signed (Harry Maguire possibly)…
