Man United agree fee with Ajax to sign Donny van de Beek: report

Out of nowhere, it looks as though Manchester United are about to sign Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

This deal has progressed quickly, earlier today, we covered a story which claimed that Van de Beek was ‘about to sign’ for United. Now, we’ve been given even more news.

It comes from the usually-reliable Rob Dawson, who tweeted the news earlier today. He has learned that United have agreed a fee to acquire Van de Beek, in a deal worth around £40million.

Personal terms and a medical will follow, with United now ‘confident’ that it will get done.

Van de Beek was training alone at Ajax earlier today, with rumours about his future circling. Now, out of nowhere, it looks like United have acquired their man – and for a pretty great price, too.

So what will Van de Beek bring to the table?

First and foremost, depth in a midfield area that, outside of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, has been largely inconsistent.

Van de Beek is a true box-to-box midfielder who’ll get stuck in defensively while also possessing the quality to help United move forward. Aged 23, he’s still young and fits in with the long-term philosophy that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is building.

Passing, finishing, a toughness and physicality. Throw him in the mix with the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred, now United can afford to rest and rotate their stars from time-to-time.

I’ve been the first to criticise United this summer, though credit where it’s due, they’ve gone about this signing quietly-but-effectively. Van de Beek is an excellent addition, who’ll no doubt become a cult hero as soon as he walks through those Old Trafford doors.

Now, we wait until the photo of Van de Beek holding the shirt aloft is tweeted by the official @ManUtd account. Hopefully, they don’t leave us waiting too long!
