In what has been a relatively slow start to the summer transfer window, Manchester United have only confirmed one signing so far in Daniel James.
However, it seems as number two is on the way, according to The Sun in an exclusive… They say that the Red Devils have agreed a fee with Real Zaragoza to sign wonderkid Mateo Mejia this summer.
Apparently, United will pay an £600,000 up front for the 16-year-old Spaniard – beating off rival bids from both England and Spain to secure Mejia’s signature.
The winger has built up a goal-scoring reputation with the La Liga club, with the player set to play for United’s youth teams – as he looks to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and eventually force his way into the first-team setup at Old Trafford.
Again, the Baby Faced Assassin is looking to press on with his policy of acquiring young players rather than moving for the finished article. There is little-to-no risk involved when signing players like Mejia, but at United, there’s every chance he’ll get an opportunity to showcase his talents on the global stage.
It may well be a few years before we’re reaping the rewards of this deal, but I liken it to how United signed Tahith Chong from Feyenoord. Now, the Dutchman is knocking on the first-team door… Hopefully Mejia can do similar.
