Man United ‘aiming to complete’ Frenkie de Jong signing by June 30th

Man United are hopeful of agreeing a deal to sign Frenkie de Jong before the end of the month.

As we all know, Manchester United have placed all their eggs in the Frenkie de Jong basket. We’ve been covering this brewing transfer saga for what feels like at least once a day over the last few weeks.

To United’s credit, they haven’t given up their pursuit despite the fact that the player himself openly admitted he’d prefer to stay with FC Barcelona.

Slowly but surely, it seems as though Erik ten Hag has been able to twist the arm of De Jong, who he worked with at Ajax a few years ago. Now, you get the feeling that the midfielder is buying into the new United project.

TalkSPORT’s update from this morning is probably the most important so far in pursuit of De Jong.

Apparently, United are ‘close to agreeing’ a fee with Barcelona, thought to be around the £68million mark, to sign the 25-year-old.

Furthermore, the Reds are ‘aiming to complete’ the signing of De Jong by June 30th, which is only four days away.

With pre-season starting tomorrow for some of the squad, it seems that Ten Hag is desperate to get De Jong through the door in a timely manner before the player is due to report back to Barca for the start of his training.

De Jong would have been given some extra time off due to the fact he’s recently been playing for his country in the UEFA Nations League.

Thankfully, it seems as though United are finally closing in on their first major signing. If this deal does happen, the club deserve major props for getting it done – because we’d have killed them for months if they spent so much time on De Jong and then ultimately failing to land their man.

I’m sure there’s still a little way to go, but you do get the impression the Reds are in a good spot as things stand.

  1. Why is Man.Utd unable to close a deal even for one new player? All clubs are wanting to go that extra mile to do anything to grab good players and sign them quickly but Man.Utd nor matter what they do, they are still sailing in the same boat.
