Man United are amongst the sides monitoring Napoli star, Kim Min-Jae.

Manchester United Football Club have started their squad overhaul under Erik ten Hag. It’s fair to say it’s going well in the early stages – though there’s much work ahead.

Defensively, this side are playing much better than they did last year. That’s largely due to the Lisandro Martinez – Raphael Varane partnership. Both Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire have had their noses pushed out. Both could well be up for sale this summer.

In the event that either, or the pair are let go, United will need to draft in a replacement. Enter, Kim Min-Jae.

The man from South Korea is having the season of his life for Napoli in the Serie A. Now, United’s interest in him has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

Apparently, United are ‘among many clubs monitoring’ the 26-year-old star defender.

Check out what Fabrizio Romano had to say on Kim Min-Jae in full here:

Very good player,” said Romano per his YouTube channel. “He’s having a fantastic season in the Champions League and Serie A… an absolutely dominating centre-back.

“It’s true that there is a release clause. The clause is a bit less than €50m and will be active for a few days in July of this summer.

“So there is the possibility of triggering the clause to sign Kim Min-jae.”

“So Man Utd are among many clubs monitoring Kim, but Napoli have to make a decision and they are pushing to extend his contract and change the clause.”

What’s encouraging is the price tag. £44m (€50m) for a player of Kim’s quality is brilliant value.

This is a player who is rapidly approaching his prime years, with the Napoli man capable of coming in and playing meaningful minutes from day one.

The problem for United could come in the fact that they will not be on the only side keen on making this deal happen. Competition could be super fierce here, with sides from all over Europe sniffing around for his signature.

It’s also worth noting that Kim leaving Napoli is not a foregone conclusion. They’re a side on the rise right now, playing some of the best football on the continent. If they win the Serie A, he could well stay in Naples.

Negotiating with Napoli isn’t all that easy, either. The release clause could help out in that aspect, mind.
