Man United among clubs with ‘serious’ interest in Mason Mount

Man United are showing a real interest in signing Mason Mount this summer.

This summer is crucial for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United – regardless of who the owners are, come that time. This summer has potential to be make or beak for the Red Devils. Get it right and the club could find themselves in amongst in next season…

The squad is still thin on the ground in some key areas. It has been evident over the last week or so due to injury issues. One area where United could still do with a bit of extra work is in midfield. Enter, Mason Mount.

United were linked with a Mount move over the weekend, with that rumour now picking up speed as we start a new week.

The story comes from the usually reliable David Ornstein for The Athletic (Subscription required). Without wanting to go too deep into it as the content is behind a paywall, United are named as one of the clubs showing a ‘serious’ interest in signing the 24-year-old attacking midfielder.

Mount, who has dipped in and out of the Chelsea team this term, has a winding down contract. Thus, he could be available for a cut-price fee this summer as Chelsea do not want to risk losing him for nothing.

The Englishman probably wants to move to a Champions League club, so finishing inside the top four has to be the absolute minimum for United. He’d also want regular starts. I’m not sure he’d get that at the Theatre of Dreams due to Bruno Fernandes playing in the same position.

If Mount is willing to accept a bit-part role, then I’d absolutely love to see this move happen as he feels like a great fit for this system.
