Man United are among several Premier League sides lining up a possible move to sign Ivan Toney.
Manchester United Football Club have been linked with strikers aplenty today, as the Old Trafford club could look to bulk up their options in the January transfer window. The name that keeps popping up most constantly is Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on a potential short-term deal.
However, in the long-run, another possible name has been thrown into the mix; Ivan Toney.
it comes from Spanish media outlet Fichajes, who state that united are among a whole host of Premier League clubs plotting a move to sign the prolific 27-year-old striker.
Toney made a successful return to action over the weekend, scoring during Brentford’s 3-2 victory at home to Nottingham Forest following an eight-month ban for breaching the FA’s betting rules. It felt like he’d never been away.
Toney’s performance was outstanding. Not just his goal, but his overall hold-up play, passing ability, strength and sheer quality was on full display.
United aren’t the only team keeping an eye on Toney, while no doubt the Reds would have to have Champions League football on offer to have any shot.
This obviously strikes me as a move that’s far more likely to happen over the summer rather than the mid-season window. When that time comes, Toney will cost a huge chunk of money.
What would this mean for Rasmus Hojlund? Would he be pushed out in the short term? It’s a real possibility, as Toney isn’t going to settle for minutes off the substitutes bench. It could be an excellent one-two punch to have, particularly if one of them is struggling for form.
