Man United are showing an interest in Sporting CP full-back, Nuno Mendes.
The Old Trafford club has a brilliant record when it comes to signing players from Portugal, so why not continue with that trend where possible?
Today’s claim comes from O Jogo (Tuesday print edition), translated excellently via Sport Witness. They’re linking the Red Devils with an interest in Sporting Lisbon right-back, Nuno Mendes.
Apparently, United are in the mix to sign the talented full-back, with Mendes currently having a £60m (€70m) release clause within his current contract.
The potential stumbling block? Mendes is wanted by the likes of Manchester City, Inter Milan and Real Madrid – meaning it could be incredibly tough to win the race for his sigature.

So why the interest in a left-back?
Honestly, I’m not sure. Luke Shaw is in the absolute form of his life, while the push given to him by Alex Telles has the Englishman ranked amongst the best left-sided defenders in the world right now.
My only thought behind the interest is that United haven’t been as impressed by Telles as they’d have liked, leaving a void there in case Shaw picks up an injury.
Even then, would United really spend £60m on a back-up full-back? I’m not convinced they would. Sure, it’s easy to say the Old Trafford club are interested in one of the best up-and-coming talents in world football, but it’s a completely different thing to suggest they’re definitely going to make a move for him.
At this stage, I’d be surprised if United interest is firmed up with an official bid this summer…
