Man United are amongst a number of clubs keeping an eye on Metz midfielder, Pape Sarr.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad is slowly but surely starting to take shape. Two major additions have been made this summer, though there are a couple of holes within the squad that still could need filling.
I’d like to see a new right-back added to prove Aaron Wan-Bissaka with some stern competition. Another possible weakness is that defensive-midfield role. Although I’m a big fan of Scott McTominay, he can’t do it all on his own.
Enter, Pape Sarr.
According to the Daily Mail on Sunday, United are amongst a whole host of top-class clubs ‘tracking’ the midfielder. The likes of Manchester City and Chelsea are all credited with interest.
Aged just 18, the mega-talent burst onto the first-team scene last season back in November for Ligue 1 outfit Metz. It’s fair to say Sarr hasn’t looked back since.
The Daily Mail state that United are one of the sides ‘readying a move’ for the ‘potential star in the making’, who made 22 top-flight appearances in 2020/21, scoring three times.
Apparently, United are prepared to sign Sarr, then loan him immediately back to Metz for the current campaign.
The 18-year-old who has already made his debut at international level would not come cheap, though, having recently signed a new long-term contract.
This is exactly the type of move that United should be making. Defensive-midfield is a position where the Reds need to get younger. Sarr is someone who wouldn’t mind drifting in and out of the team for a year or two, before being ready to cement his place in the starting XI by the time he’s age 20.
Once again, it shows that United’s scouting team are doing their due diligence, looking at far more sensible options this summer as opposed to in years gone by.
