Man United are showing an interest in Borussia Monchengladbach winger, Denis Zakaria.
Ralf Rangnick is going to need time to fully implement his style and ideologies here in Manchester. Which is why giving a manager with vastly different beliefs six months to undertake an overhaul was always going to be a big ask.
Credit where it’s due, though, United are seemingly willing to back their man. No doubt the Old Trafford club will then look to pass the torch on to someone who likes to play in a similar manner to Rangnick.
Money is seemingly there available for the 63-year-old, should he want to spend it. Now, Denis Zakaria has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The claim came from Jonathan Shrager late on Sunday evening. He stated that United are amongst a number of clubs who have ‘recently enquired’ about signing the 25-year-old defensive midfielder this month.
It goes without saying, the lack of consistency in the defensive-midfield area of the field is nothing but alarming. Scott McTominay is probably about as good as it gets and even he has endured his own problems and struggles.
A move for someone like Zakaria would not only give the others in that position extra motivation, but we’d be seriously strengthening the squad.
The Switzerland international has spent the last four-and-a-half seasons playing for a top-class Bundesliga outfit – though at this stage, he’s probably outgrown Borussia Monchengladbach.
Now could be the ideal time for him to make a move away from Germany, though as Shrager states, there are several other parties interested in him.
Perhaps a January move could catch United’s rivals for Zakaria off-guard and a move this month may well be the Reds’ best chance at getting a deal done.
