It seems as though Romelu Lukaku’s proposed move to Inter Milan is finally picking up pace.
The story comes from the usually reliable Fabrizio Romano, who has remained constant in his belief that the striker does want to leave Old Trafford this summer.
This time around, Romano tweets that Inter Milan are set for another meeting with Lukaku’s agent, Federico Pastorello, to discuss the potential transfer.
Furthermore, talks are ongoing between United and the Nerazzurri about a deal, while the 26-year-old himself still wants to move to the Serie A giants. Apparently, his ‘idea’ remains to join Inter…
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it pretty clear that Marcus Rashford is his first-choice striker during his six-month tenure as United manager. The majority of minutes have been handed to the 21-year-old and I see nothing to suggest that won’t continue.
For Lukaku, it’s about playing week-in-week-out football for a club who have a manager who fully buys into what the Belgium international can offer. Don’t forget that Antonio Conte, Inter’s new manager, tried to sign the forward during his time as Chelsea boss back in 2017.
However, unless Inter somehow can afford to meet United’s demands, I just don’t see a move happening this summer. A lot of players will have to be sold by Conte to raise sufficient funds to sign Lukaku – and that’s far easier said than done.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens when these two sides meet in a pre-season game on July 20th. My early prediction is that Lukaku is still wearing red at that time…
