Manchester United have their man. Erik ten Hag will take charge from this summer.
Well, after a few months with Ralf Rangncik at the helm, we now know the identity of the next permanent manager; Erik ten Hag.
The club officially announced that the Dutchman will take charge at the end of this season, initially signing on a three-year contract with the option for a further year.
Over the last week or so, Ten Hag emerged as the overwhelming favourite for the job, with every report pretty much claiming that a deal had been done. Now, we’ve got the confirmation from the Red Devils themselves.
Currently manager of Ajax, Ten Hag will want to finish this season strong and deliver a league title to the club he’ll depart next month.
Personally, I’m surprised that the Eredivisie outfit have been willing to officially confirm the departure of their main man while there’s still plenty left to play for. However, it does give them ample time to find a replacement ahead of the new term.
For United, it’s fantastic that this deal has been done so quickly. They now have plenty of opportunities to work out what players Ten Hag would be interested in signing ahead of a crucial summer transfer window for the 20-time Premier League champions.
It also means Ten Hag will have a full pre-season to work with these players as he looks to start implementing his tactics and ideology.
Credit to United for getting this deal done so quickly and efficiently. They’ve identified their man and ensured he’s been signed up before other sides have the chance at making their move for the next up and coming coach.
Welcome to the biggest club on the planet, Erik!
