Man United approach Barca over Nelson Semedo: report

Defensively, Manchester United have done far more right than wrong over the last few months.

The Red Devils are heading in a positive direction under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, largely thanks to the two defensive signings he made over the summer.

Well, it seems as though the Baby Faced Assassin isn’t completely content in that regard, with Catalan media outlet Sport throwing a new name into the mix, FC Barcelona’s Nelson Semedo. Thanks to Sport Witness for the translation.

Apparently, United have made an approach for the 26-year-old, with the article stating that if Quique Setien’s side received a good enough offer, they’d have no problem with sending it to Semedo’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

Furthermore, Semedo isn’t 100% satisfied with his situation at his current club, and wouldn’t have an issue in moving elsewhere, to a side where his place in the starting XI would be ‘untouchable’…

Semedo’s currently under contract until 2022, with a €100m release clause in his deal.

What first springs to my mind is the fact that Semedo is a right-back, that’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s position. Unless Solskjaer plans to use the Englishman as part of a back three then I don’t see anyone displacing ‘The Spider’ from the starting XI.

I do find it strange that the Baby Faced Assassin is looking at adding another right-sided full-back, mind, particularly when you factor in Diogo Dalot.

To me, this story feels like a non-starter. Sure, perhaps United may add another full-back, but I’d doubt it’d be someone as high profile as Semedo…
