Man United are ready to make an attempt to sign Marco Asensio.
One Real Madrid midfielder has been signed, with Manchester United now making a play for another.
Casemiro is in. He’ll likely feature against Southampton this weekend. The Old Trafford club are now looking at Marco Asensio. The Spaniard, granted, can play out wide or in that number 10 position. He’d bring some versatility to Old Trafford if the deal does happen.
It’s @relevo with the scoop. They state that United are ‘determined’ to make a formal offer for the 26-year-old. Apparently, that offer will be ‘more’ than £25m (€30m).
Apparently, United will face competition from other English sides for Asensio’s signature, while Italian clubs are also ready to make a bid for the Spaniard.
However, it’s written that Asensio’s departure from Real Madrid is ‘difficult’, with current Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, ‘counting on’ the midfielder for the coming season.
A move for Asensio strikes me as one where United are trying to plug many holes with one player. Quite frankly, there’s too many gaps to fill before this transfer window slams shut, so I do like this idea.
Aged 26, Asensio is someone who could offer decent longevity to United, while he’d also bring that winning mentality with him. Perhaps United can look to Casemiro, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo to try and convince Asensio to make the move.
However, just like I was with Casemiro, I am sceptical. Asensio would be swapping a really nice situation at the Santiago Bernabeu, for a club that could go either way. Who knows how United are going to fare this year? It really is a toss-up. On top of no Champions League football on the table, that feels like a real risk.
