Sky Sports News believe Man United are all set to trigger the release clause in Joshua Zirkzee’s contract.
Manchester United Football Club need a big transfer window in order to start moving up the Premier League table, though with money tight, the Old Trafford side have to spend their funds wisely.
The Red Devils allowed Anthony Martial’s contract to wind down this summer, leaving the club a man light in the striker department. It’s something that has to be addressed in some capacity this summer.
The name most linked with filling that void is Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, with the forward currently away at the European Championship, representing the Netherlands.
Sky Sports News have now provided an update on the future of the Bologna man, claiming that United are ‘expected’ to meet the release clause in the 23-year-old’s contract.
The signing is now deemed a ‘priority’ due to the fact a striker is needed, though the club want to approach the situation delicately, as they also do not want to hamper the development of Rasmus Hojlund.

Zirkzee scored 12 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions which is a very decent return – particularly for someone who’d initially be a back-up at the Theatre of Dreams.
The £34m release clause in his contract is also very reasonable. The belief is that United have around £50m net to spend before player sales. Obviously, a couple of major exits could help out Erik ten Hag massively.
It does seem like this transfer is moving in the right direction, though I wouldn’t expect anything concrete to happen until after EURO 2024 is over.
