Man United want to bolster their forward ranks by signing Joshua Zirkzee.
Manchester United are not hiding the fact that they want to sign another striker this summer, in order to support Rasmus Hojlund. Couple that with news of Anthony Martial’s departure and a new number nine coming through the Old Trafford doors feels like an absolute certainty.
With the transfer window now just a fortnight away, names are starting to get linked with filling that void left by the aforementioned Frenchman, including Joshua Zirkzee.
It’s Give Me Sport with the story, as they relay information from Italian media outlet, Gazzetta dello Sport. They believe United are interested in signing the 23-year-old forward this summer, who’d be available for £34m due to a release clause in his contract.
United will not have it all their own way to sign the man who plies his trade for Bologna, with Arsenal, Juventus and AC Milan showing an interest in bringing in the Dutchman.
Zirkzee registered 16 goal contributions in Serie A this season, during his first campaign as a regular starter.
With a better quality of player around him, you’d expect that Zirkzee will continue to develop and grow as a footballer, though United may encounter a familiar problem here. Several of the other sides linked with a move to sign Zirkzee have Champions League football on offer. The Reds have been made to settle for Europa League football this time around.
If United can convince Zirkzee that Old Trafford is the place for him, then this does feel like an astute piece of business. It’s a decent price for a player with high potential, while he’d be more than willing to dip in and out of the team as and when required – at least for the next year or two.
