Man United are ‘progressing in direct contacts’ to sign Eduardo Camavinga: report

Manchester United are pushing ahead in an effort to sign Eduardo Camavinga.

Now that Manchester United’s move for Jadon Sancho seems all-but-sealed, the Old Trafford club are looking to push on and sign other transfer targets.

Centre-half remains a big need, with Raphael Varane often linked. A new midfielder could also be on the cards. Enter, Eduardo Camavinga. The young Rennes midfielder has been linked with the Red Devils in the past, with that interest now intensifying.

The scoop comes from Fabrizio Romano. He took to Twitter to offer us all an update on Camavinga’s future. Apparently, United are ‘progressing’ in a deal to sign the midfielder, with direct contacts made with, presumably, his agents and the player himself.

Ligue 1 side Rennes would be open to negotiating a deal due to Camavinga’s winding down contract. If Rennes don’t cash in this summer, they’ll lose their talented midfielder for nothing in twelve months time.

In terms of a transfer fee, Camavinga could cost £25million, which is an absolute bargain for a player of his calibre. United are named as long-term admirers of the youngster, while Paris Saint-Germain are also keen.

Aged just eighteen, Camavinga has often been earmarked as someone who could come to Old Trafford and replace Paul Pogba if needed. However, if United can somehow get this deal over the line this summer, then perhaps the pair of Frenchmen could actually be playing together in the 2021/22 season.

We’re talking about an unbelievably talented young footballer who has the potential to be one of the best in the world in his position. Why wouldn’t United be interested in that?

Fighting off interest from PSG may be extremely difficult, particularly if Camavinga wants to stay in his homeland. Perhaps it’d take a little extra persuading and a nice little wage hike, then the midfielder may well be keen on bringing his talents to English shores…

Would Eduardo Camavinga be an upgrade on Man United’s current midfield options? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
