Man United are making good progress with their Kobbie Mainoo contract talks, as they look to tie down the youngster.
Kobbie Mainoo is understandably the talk of the town right now. The Englishman, who has just received his first call-up to the Three Lions squad, is playing at an extremely high level.
It has been a whirlwind few months for the man who only broke into the United team back in November, though that’s where being super grounded is a major positive. Mainoo seems to be just taking it all in his stride, not letting the fame go to his head.
There have been rumours about a new Mainoo contract being in the offing. It does make sense given his performances, as United have always preferred to pay their best performers too early rather than too late.
Now, HITC have provided another positive update on that front, claiming that United talks ‘are progressing’ over the new contract for their rising starlet.
Although INEOS are mainly focused on hiring staff members like Dan Ashworth, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to tie Mainoo down, while it’s said ‘talks have accelerated’ with the young midfielder. United didn’t want to put a deal for Mainoo on the back-burner, instead, they’re looking to secure his future.
Mainoo will earn a pay rise here, despite the fact his current deal still has a few years left to run. No doubt the club want to reward the Englishman’s excellence, while adding an extra year or two onto the length of the deal. It feels like a win-win for everyone involved.
I always assumed this deal wouldn’t be finalised until the end of the season, though HITC state that the conversations are going well and a deal could be complete by Easter, which is only about ten days away.
