Man United are keeping a keen eye on the Antonio Rudiger situation at Chelsea…
Perhaps Manchester United’s biggest need going into the summer window is another centre-back. While it’s true that Raphael Varane has improved the situation, there’s still work to be done for the Old Trafford club in that area of the field.
Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones continue to be inconsistent. Hence, the 20-time Premier League champions could well look to bring in a new defender in the off-season.
One man now being linked with a potential Old Trafford switch is Antonio Rudiger. The story came from the Daily Mail on Friday.
As things stand, Rudiger is set to become a free agent this coming summer, though Chelsea have offered the German fresh terms.
What’s interesting is that the Reds are ‘watching developments closely’ in regards to Rudiger’s situation. On top of that, Ralf Rangnick is said to be a ‘huge admirer’ of the 28-year-old centre-half.
This isn’t the first time United have been linked with a move for Rudiger, with those stories starting back in December.
A move for Rudiger would certainly be interesting. He’s a fiery character who always gives his all and will try to win by any means necessary. Perhaps that personality is exactly what we need within that dressing room at the moment.
He has tonnes of Premier League experience, is a natural winner and perhaps his aggressive nature of defending is the perfect complement to Varane’s Rolls Royce-like play.
It’s going to be easier said than done to bring Rudiger into Old Trafford, though. There’s no doubt Chelsea will push hard to ensure the German stays at Stamford Bridge. And if he does choose to leave, they’ll be more than just United who are keen on acquiring Rudiger’s services.
