Manchester United have been interested in Harry Maguire for a few weeks now, although it seems as though their attentions are turning elsewhere.
According to Mundo Deportivo‘s Wednesday print edition, translated via Sport Witness, United have ‘asked’ about the availability of FC Barcelona’s 25-year-old centre-back, Samuel Umtiti.
Apparently, the 20-time Premier League champions have once again become interested in Umtiti’s situation in Catalonia, after showing a willingness to sign the player just last summer.

Umtiti endured an injury-hit 2018/19 campaign, in which the Frenchman lost his place in the team to his compatriot, Clement Lenglet. However, the Reds won’t have it easy with Barca viewing the centre-half as non-transferable as they rule out a sale.
Interestingly, this comes just a day after another Mundo Deportivo story we covered, in which it was written that Barca wanted to sign Victor Lindelof…
At this point, a move for Umtiti looks unlikely, while the aforementioned article claims that United said ‘no’ to Barca’s advances for Lindelof. In effect, that all-but rules out a swap deal.
You get the feeling that United will have to continue their search elsewhere as this one seems like a real non-starter. I’m just glad this has been nipped in the bud early rather than it dragging out all summer long.
