Despite many names being linked with an Old Trafford switch, Manchester United are yet to strengthen their central midfield during this transfer window.
Today, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Christian Eriksen. Earlier on in the summer, the Dane hinted at his future lying away from Tottenham Hotspur, although all went relatively quiet on that front.
According to the Daily Mail, United have asked to be ‘kept informed’ on the 27-year-old, while the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona have all shown an interest.
With just one year left on his deal while Eriksen has shown no interest in renewing, the Mail adds that Spurs would allow the attacking midfielder to leave for £70million.
Now United have emerged as ‘genuine contenders’ to sign Eriksen during this window, particularly after Spurs complete a move for Giovani Lo Celso.
The fee sounds expensive but Eriksen is a quality player, and if United let his contract wind down and allow the player to become a free agent next summer, the chances are, he’d probably favour a move to either Barca or Madrid (heck, who wouldn’t?). This is likely the Red Devils’ best shot at luring the Dane to Old Trafford – although I’m still not convinced a deal will be reached.
