Manchester United need to find a long-term centre-back partner for an ever-improving Victor Lindelof. It seems as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Harry Maguire as that man.
According to a report from the Evening Standard, United have now made their first move – beginning negotiations with Leicester City in regards to the 26-year-old. The 20-time Premier League champions have kicked things off with a £40million bid.
That said, Leicester value their centre-back at the £90million mark, with Manchester City also interested in signing the one they call ‘slabhead’. The report says that neither Manchester club are willing to pay The Foxes what they want – although United are confident they can secure a deal, beating Manchester City to Maguire’s signature in the process…
Apparently, City are determined to get their man, viewing Maguire as the long-term successor to Vincent Kompany. That means United will have to get ‘significantly closer’ to Leicester’s asking price – as if the offers on the table are similar, the player would probably opt for a Etihad move.
This is the third time the Manchester clubs have gone head-to-head when it comes to signing players. United have ‘won’ twice, acquiring both Alexis Sanchez and Fred. It’s fair to say the Red Devils will be hoping for a better outcome this time around…
