Man United are showing increasing confidence in Shea Lacey, among other Reds youngsters.
Manchester United have always been a club that has placed full trust in youngsters. Just ask Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo about that. Both are arguably the Reds’ top performers over the last five months.
Credit must go to Erik ten Hag for throwing them in at the deep end, with others looking to follow suit.
Not too long ago, we learned that Shea Lacey had signed his first pro contract with the Old Trafford side. He feels like the next one in line after some incredibly impressive performances at youth level.
While speaking to Give Me Sport, journalist Ben Jacobs has provided a significant update on Lacey’s future.
Jacobs states that United now feel the 17-year-old starlet is ready to ‘step up’ to the first-team with Reds. He is not alone in that regard, with other emerging, unnamed starlets also considered to be in that position.
Lacey has already trained with the first-team in the past, though you get the feeling we could see the winger involved in those senior sessions more and more often as we approach a massive summer for the young man.
The next logical step after that would be to take the Liverpool-born-starlet on pre-season tour and see whether he has what it takes to mix it up with these fully grown men on a day-in-day-out basis.
From that point, a decision will be made about a potential loan move away for Lacey. Often, the best of the best skip this step, being directly thrust into first-team action at United. That will be the true indicator as to how much this club believe in Lacey.
