Man United feel like they have won the race to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

Among the top priorities for Manchester United this summer is a new striker signing. The Old Trafford side lost Anthony Martial, while it’s clear Marcus Rashford is better as a left-winger.

Suddenly, Rasmus Hojlund is the only senior striker at the club. The young Dane cannot do it all on his own. He needs help. The name most heavily linked with providing that support is Joshua Zirkzee.

Now TEAMtalk have provided an update on that front – and it’s encouraging news for fans of Zirkzee.

Their sources state that United believe they have won the race for the signing of the Dutch striker. Apparently, United are ‘extremely confident’ about wrapping up the incoming transfer, presumably somewhat soon.

The 23-year-old Bologna player caught the eye with some impressive Serie A performances last year, scoring twelve goals across all competitions. His side finished fifth in the Italian league, with Zirkzee forming one part of an exciting young Bologna side.

With a £34m release clause, it was expected that Zirkzee would leave Bologna this summer and now United appear to be winning the race to acquire the player. AC Milan were also keen, but they appear to have taken a backseat to the Reds in the chase, as they’re unwilling to pay a £12.5m commission payment which is a part of the deal. United are willing to swallow that fee.

Zirkzee would not also be a necessary signing for depth, he’d also offer something different. Standing at 6’4, the Dutchman could allow United to play a different style of football when needed. This would be an astute piece of business if the Red Devils can push this deal over the line.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Joshua Zirkzee would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
