Man United boosted, Anthony Martial back in first-team training

Anthony Martial has returned to first-team training over the last 24 hours.

Manchester United’s struggles in the first two games have been evident. Erik ten Hag’s men are playing nothing like they were on pre-season tour, with confidence already through the floor.

There’s no doubt that the absence of Anthony Martial has been pretty big. After all, the replacements haven’t been particularly encouraging. Christian Eriksen simply cannot play that role while Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t want to be here.

I’d like to believe that upon the Frenchman’s return, the whole starting line-up will start to perform a little better.

Well, The Athletic’s Adam Crafton has some big news for us in that regard, with United given a boost in terms of Martial’s fitness.

Apparently, the key man is now back in first-team training after missing both the Brighton and Brentford fixtures.

Martial has been effectively sidelined for two weeks, so where he’s at in terms of fitness remains to be seen.

The good news is that United don’t actually play until Monday evening, so the former AS Monaco man has about a week to get himself in some sort of condition to start this fixture.

Martial looked electric during the Australian leg of United’s pre-season tour, so we’re all hoping he can put in a similar sort of display at home to Liverpool in a massively-important fixture for the whole club.

I’d like to think that United’s number nine is someone who’ll not only be a direct upgrade on whoever he replaces, Martial will also help get the best out of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford. Both of whom have struggled themselves through the first two weeks of the 2022/23 campaign.

Fingers crossed Martial is fit enough to start. We’re absolutely going to need him.
