Man United have been given a lift ahead of their game against Liverpool.
Although doubts about Harry Maguire’s fitness remain up in the air, Liverpool themselves have some defensive woes.
Jurgen Klopp’s side sit thirteen points behind Manchester United in the table (ha!), with Liverpool struggling to force their way into the top four.
For them, the Old Trafford showdown on Thursday is massive. Well, United have been given an early boost, as a now-key Liverpool man has been deemed ‘highly unlikely’ to be fit to take on the Reds.
That’s according to The Athletic, who state that 21-year-old Ozan Kabak will almost certainly miss the game through injury.
Kabak was only signed on loan in January, though with Liverpool seriously struggling with defensive injuries, the Turk has emerged as a regular starter for the Anfield club.
In Kabak’s absence, it was left to Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams at the weekend against Southampton. With United’s speed, flair and creativity, that’s a defensive partnership our side could take advantage of.
At this point, United are destined to finish second, regardless of how their final four Premier League games end. However, denting Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the Champions League places would be absolutely glorious – so I’d expect Solskjaer to prioritise that fixture over the Leicester City one tomorrow.
It goes without saying, United should be looking to attack this game and get a couple of early goals in Kabak’s absence. This is a United team full of creativity, so it’d be lovely to take an early lead for a change, rather than going a goal behind!
Let’s not forget this game is once again being targeted by United fans for a protest, so it’ll also be interesting to see how that one plays out.
