Man United are seemingly intent on adding a centre-half to the playing squad this summer.
Victor Lindelof remains inconsistent, Eric Bailly is constantly injured. Manchester United’s only constant at the centre-half position is Harry Maguire – and even he divides fan opinion.
It makes sense, then, that United are prioritising a move for a centre-half this summer.
90min.com have had their say on the Red Devils’ defensive hunt, claiming that Sevilla’s Joules Kounde and Villareal’s Pau Torres sit atop Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wishlist.
Apparently, the gaffer is keen to find a long-term partner for Maguire this summer, with Kounde and Torres on a list alongside names like Caglar Soyuncu and Ben White.
Now, United are carrying out ‘extensive checks’ on the pair, with the Old Trafford club stepping up their scouting efforts, with Kounde and Torres now at the top of Solskjaer’s centre-half wishlist.
Looking at the situation from afar, you get the impression that Kounde is the ideal target, though he’s also attracting interest from Real Madrid, per 90min.com.
This is the first time I’ve heard us linked with Torres, though to us it seems pretty clear what Solskjaer is looking for in his centre-half.
He’s after someone quick and who can play out from the back – which are two of Maguire’s biggest weaknesses. Basically, Solskjaer is looking for the perfect complement to his current United captain.
Whether Kounde or Torres is that guy remains to be seen, though I do worry about signing La Liga defenders, as they’ve never played in a physical league like the Premier League.
Sure, they’re talented young players but call me old-fashioned, I’d much prefer us to go out there and sign White from Brighton as he knows what it takes to play in English football.
