Man United cleared to complete £60m transfer as Chelsea pull out of race: report

Manchester United have been cleared to sign Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, as Chelsea pull out of the race, according to The Metro.

Apparently, Antonio Conte has baulked at Juve’s £60million asking price for the Brazilian, leaving Jose Mourinho as the frontrunner to land the 26-year-old’s signature.

As a left-back, Sandro is up there amongst the best in Europe when he’s on top of his game, and it would be a sensational piece of business.

Unfortunately, £50-60million is now the going rate if you want to sign a top-class defender, and, let’s be honest, Manchester United have plenty of money so they should do all they can to get this deal done.

Left-back has been a problem area for the Red Devils over the last few years, and I think it’s fair to say they’ve not had a regular left-sided full-back since Patrice Evra left the club.

Yes, Luke Shaw has been doing well, but he’s so injury prone and that clearly worries manager Mourinho. We also have Ashley Young, but he’s 32 now, so he won’t be around forever. In my opinion, a move for Sandro is definitely the way to go, but I struggle to see a deal being done in January.
