Man United close in on £43.8m deal, medical & contract signing to happen soon: report

Manchester United Football Club are closing in on a £43.8m (€50m) signing of Brazil international Fred. Apparently, the 25-year-old will undergo his medical tests and work on signing the contract shortly.

That’s according to the usually excellent Fabrizio Romano. He claims that a deal has been finalised and it seems as though the Shakhtar Donetsk central midfielder is set to be Jose Mourinho’s first summer transfer.

If this is the case, then perhaps we’ll hear something more next week when Brazil head to the North West to take part in a pre-World Cup friendly game at Anfield. That’d be the perfect time to get things completed before Fred heads to Russia.

It has to be Edward Woodward’s priority to push this deal over the line before the World Cup, as if it drags out, that’d present other sides with an opportunity to make their move for him; which would obviously spell bad news for Manchester United.

Fred is the perfect box-to-box midfielder who’d complement Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba excellently. I see him as a more talented version of Ander Herrera, and it could be an extremely important upgrade for Mourinho’s midfield – particularly if he plans on playing the 4-3-3 on a regular basis.
