Every summer there’s always a few journalists or reporters who stick their neck out in regards to Manchester United transfers.
Credit where it’s due, as talkSPORT’s Andy Goldstein has gone very early on this one, saying that he’s only heard ‘good things’ about the possibility of Kalidou Koulibaly moving to United, before adding that a deal is ‘close’…
Goldstein has worked for MUTV for years now so I’d like to think that he’s well connected in regards to sources and whatnot, so why put your reputation on the line if he doesn’t have credible proof to back up these claims?
As you can see from the video below, he seems pretty convinced.
Aged 27, Koulibaly is right in his prime and you’d imagine he wouldn’t come cheap, particularly as Napoli have always been notorious negotiators.
In terms of fit, Koulibaly would be perfect to start alongside Victor Lindelof as the back two, with the Senegal international bringing a hunger and sheer willingness to win.
That said, not only is it going to take an astronomical transfer fee but you’d have to pay Koulibaly a colossal wage given the fact that United don’t have Champions League football on the table.
But, given United’s predicament, it’s vital that they ensure the player is coming here with the sole purpose of playing for United rather than lining his own pockets. This club is trying to head in a different direction and if Koulibaly wants to be here, then I’d genuinely pay whatever it takes to ensure he chooses Old Trafford as his next destination.
