Man United have added a new name to their transfer radar – West Ham’s Thomas Soucek.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils are currently sitting in second place in the Premier League standings. Credit where it’s due, Manchester United have been excellent this season. However, you still get the feeling we’re a season away from a major title challenge.
With that in mind, it shows just how massive the upcoming summer transfer window is. The board, Edward Woodward and our Baby Faced Assassin have to get it absolutely right.
Today, West Ham’s Thomas Soucek has been added to the list of possible targets. The story comes from Football Insider, who state that United are ‘closely monitoring’ the 25-year-old ahead of a ‘potential summer move’.
It’s stated that United have been ‘hugely impressed’ with the Czech’s form this season. Soucek scored a couple against Villa last week, taking his tally to an impressive eight goals on the campaign.
What has been most impressive to me is that Soucek has started each and every single league game for West Ham this season. In a campaign where games are coming thick and fast, having someone that readily available has been massive for David Moyes and The Irons.
You look at his ability with the ball at his feet, his aerial threat and physicality, and you’ve got almost the perfect defensive-minded midfielder.
Would Soucek fit in?
Absolutely yes. He’s a lovely, lovely footballer who’d find a place in any squad in world football. The problem? He’s not even been at West Ham a season. They’re not going to let him leave cheaply, particularly as he cost £19million.
With Nemanja Matic ageing and Scott McTominay being a different style of player this does feel like an avenue United should explore. Will a deal be done this summer? I’d be surprised.
Maybe give it another year and then we’ll have a better shot at prising him away from the London Stadium.
