Man United ‘closely tracking’ Miguel Gutierrez as Reds look to strengthen at left-back

Man United have eyes on Girona starlet, Miguel Gutierrez.

Manchester United have now allowed Sergio Reguilon to head back to Tottenham Hotspur, triggering a break clause in his loan.

Erik ten Hag chose to allow the Spaniard to leave due to the fact that the club will face a reduction in games due to being dumped out of Europe, coupled with the fact that Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are on the mend from injury.

However, in the long run, a new left-sided defender appears to be high on the gaffer’s wish list.

It’s The Sun who provide the latest information on that front, as they claim that the Old Trafford side are now ‘closely tracking’ 22-year-old left-back, Miguel Gutierrez, as a possible option.

The position is said to be a ‘top priority’ for Ten Hag, though it will not be easy to sign Gutierrez.

The Girona player, who is still 50% owned by Real Madrid, with Los Blancos also holding a sell-on clause in Gutierrez’s contract. Make no mistake about it, Madrid will decide this young man’s future.

United are said to be fans of Gutierrez’s high football IQ, coupled with his attacking profile.

The Old Trafford club will not have it all their own way in the race to sign the man from Spain, with AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund also showing an interest in the left-sided defender.

His excellent form, coupled with interest aplenty from all across Europe, means it may prove difficult for United to win this race. At the very least, you’d have to be able to offer Champions League football for the 2024/25 season. That looks difficult as things stand, though a lot can change between now and the end of the campaign.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Miguel Gutierrez would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
