Manchester United are closing in on sealing a January move to sign FC Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to Don Balon, translated by The Sun.
The report claims that Gomes, 24, will cost the Red Devils around £31million, with Jose Mourinho keen on signing his fellow countryman – who he wanted to acquire over the summer but a deal couldn’t be pushed through.
United’s hand is strengthened further, due to the fact that Gomes’ agent Jorge Mendes is also keen on getting a deal agreed – likely due to the fact that the agent will net himself a huge amount of money if the transfer happens.
Gomes is a box-to-box midfielder who made the move to Catalonia in the summer of 2016, but he’s hardly set the world alight while an FC Barcelona player.
Personally, I think he’d be a wonderful addition. You have to remember that Marouane Fellaini is yet to pen a new deal at Old Trafford, and he’s free to discuss a pre-contract with other clubs in just a few days; it makes perfect sense for United to try and solve that issue, with a new signing, as quickly as possible.
