Man United are in the hunt to sign Pau Torres this summer.
Erik Ten Hag’s list of transfer targets has probably already been drawn up by the Dutchman.
He’ll be giving Manchester United a list of names he’d like to sign, though it’s difficult as he hasn’t worked with the current squad on a daily basis.
The one thing he will know is that United, as currently assembled, are nowhere near good enough. He’ll be looking to change that as soon as he walks through the doors.
Names are constantly being linked with a switch to the Theatre of Dreams. The latest claim comes from Spanish media outlet, Todofichajes. They reckon the Reds are in the race to sign Pau Torres.
United are interested in acquiring the 25-year-old defender, though they’ll face stiff competition from Manchester City. We’ve also been linked with the centre-back before.
Villareal, where Torres currently plies his trade, is known as a selling club, though Torres’ form will ensure a high transfer figure. The starting price is said to be around £50m (€60m).
Torres will decide where he wants to play his football in the ‘coming weeks’, though it’s claimed by Todofichajes that ‘playing at Old Trafford is a dream’ for the player. However, he understands that in the short term, City is a better ‘project’ as things stand.
There’s no doubt that Torres would be an upgrade on our current crop of centre-backs. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane have all had their struggles, while Phil Jones will likely leave this summer so another body is definitely needed.
It all comes down to whether Torres’ desire to play for United can outweigh the guaranteed trophies that he’d win down the road at City…
