Concerns about Mason Greenwood from an attitude standpoint appear to be growing inside the Manchester United camp.
Manchester United Football Club have always been rather spectacular when it comes to developing and nurturing young footballers. From Cristiano Ronaldo to the whole Class of 92, it’s in their DNA.
Over the last eighteen months, we’ve seen the emergence of Mason Greenwood. We’re talking about a young player who is arguably the most talented we’ve ever seen at Old Trafford.
He’d score goals galore during a thrilling debut season, though this campaign has started somewhat differently. Attitude problems came to light during the last international break, where he and Phil Foden would be found guilty of breaking coronavirus protocol rules, by inviting girls back into their hotel room.
We’re now at the next international break. Foden has earned a recall. Greenwood hasn’t. That’s apparently because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was firm in his belief that the United man should stay at Carrington.
That was according to The Athletic, who also explain that United are concerned about Greenwood’s attitude on the whole. What’s concerning is that the now-key United man put in a lethargic training display on Friday before the Everton game that he missed. Coincidence? I think not.
Solskjaer would come out and explain to the media that Greenwood was feeling unwell on Friday night and that’s why he missed the game. Now, though, I’m starting to question the truth behind that. It certainly feels like a case of manager backing his player and blatantly lying to the press, though.
Furthermore, United are once again concerned about Greenwood’s activities outside of the club. Most notably, they’re worried about a lack of sleep, which is consequently placing his immune system in jeopardy and undermining his concentration levels.
Ravel Morrison 2.0?
This is honestly the last thing United need right now. Ravel Morrison could have been something special but he decided to throw it all away. You’d hope that due to the fact Greenwood has had a taste of what it’s like in the first-team, that’ll lead him down a different path.
I do like the fact that Solskjaer is trying to protect his player, though. Hopefully, a heart-to-heart with Greenwood will convince him to follow in the correct footsteps.
It’s also worth noting he’s still super-young and you’d like to think Greenwood will mature sooner rather than later.
