Man United firmly believe Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at the club beyond this January.
The Cristiano Ronaldo saga will no doubt rumble on and on for the foreseeable future, with Manchester United seemingly undecided on what to do with the greatest player to ever do it.
We have to be honest, Ronaldo looks like a shadow of his former self right now. He looks every bit an older player trying to compete in this physically-demanding league. Quite frankly, it’s sad.
Well, the latest report on Ronaldo’s future comes from the usually reliable ESPN. They state that United are actually ‘confident’ the wantaway star will remain at the club beyond the January transfer window.
What’s damning is that it’s because there’s no interest in Ronaldo from presumably the calibre of club he’d like to move to. His performances simply do not warrant a move to another top-tier side.
UEFA would allow Ronaldo to move to a Champions League side in January if the opportunity arises. However, I just do not see anyone making that decision, largely due to his huge wages coupled with poor displays.
OTF’s verdict
It’s just sad more than anything. We’re watching the fall from grace of probably my favourite player of this generation.
That’s no knock on Ronaldo, though. He’s getting up there in age and playing in a physically-demanding system. He needs a side with legs around him, in a team that doesn’t press from the front. Finding that may be tough, though, particularly if Ronnie wants to remain at the highest level.
In an ideal world, a January move will happen. Sadly, the longer this drags on, the messier it gets for all involved.
