Although Manchester United have improved over the last couple of fixtures, there are still some underlying problems at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given himself some respite, though there is much work ahead. Amongst the list of needs is a shiny new striker who can compete with Anthony Martial for the starting job. One name that keeps popping up is Erling Braut Haaland.
In their latest article about the Reds, the Daily Mail write that United are ‘confident of attracting’ the prolific 19-year-old to Manchester – though a summer deal is more realistic than a January move.
Haaland’s form this term is just insane. The teenager has scored 27 goals in nineteen games, eight of which have come in five Champions League matches. This young Norweigan has the footballing world at his feet.
There’s no doubt that Solskjaer’s Norweigan roots plays into United’s hands, you also have to factor in that Haaland and Solskjaer have worked together previously at Molde.
However, United have to be realistic. Right now, they’re not a Champions League club. RB Salzburg (Haaland’s current side) are, while you fully expect other elite teams will be keen on acquiring the striker next summer. Simply put, Solskjaer isn’t going to have it all his own way.
You also have to think about transfer fees. Haaland isn’t going to come cheap, though fortunately, United can compete with anyone in that regard.
The Mail also name Saul Niguez as a player the 20-time Premier League champions are looking at, though the superstar Spaniard is named as an ‘ambitious’ option.
