Last summer, Manchester United’s lack of a centre-back signing infuriated the fans; and rightly so.
Jose Mourinho wasn’t backed, that eventually led to him losing his job. Although things are looking far brighter with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the wheel, the club cannot afford to make the same mistakes again.
Thankfully, it seems as though they’re looking to right the wrongs from twelve months ago. According to the Daily Star, United are confident that they can land Leicester City and England defender, Harry Maguire.
The figure being quoted is £65million and apparently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given United the green light to go out and sign the centre-half who had a stellar World Cup.
To add to that, the Baby Faced Assassin believes that he can build his defence around the 26-year-old; with Maguire open to an Old Trafford switch.
Last season, I was all about wanting this move to happen. However, this domestic campaign has been the best for Maguire. He has made mistakes and regressed somewhat, and although I still think he’d be an upgrade on what we have – I’m just not sure he’s good enough.
I guess the biggest problem would be an alarming lack of pace – and if, say, he has a Sergio Aguero running at him, I just wouldn’t feel confident in Maguire winning that battle. I feel there are better options out there.
