Man United are feeling good about their chances of signing Antony this summer.
The glaring need for a new wide player is there for all to see. Sure, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho looked good against Liverpool, though depth is required.
Erik ten Hag is a big fan of Antony. After all, the Dutchman worked with the Brazilian day-in-day-out at Ajax, with the player flourishing in that situation.
It makes sense for Ten Hag to try and surround himself with that familiarity as he gets used to life here in Manchester, though Ajax, understandably, have remained firm and haven’t budged on their asking price.
Well, United have made another push to bring in Antony, with the Old Trafford club now feeling good about their chances.
It’s The Mirror with the claim. They state that United are now ‘confident’ of signing Antony this summer. All-in, the deal could total £80million, which does feel like an overpay by the Reds, though they’re in a tricky situation.
According to the report, Antony is ‘desperate’ to push through this transfer before Thursday’s transfer deadline. He has also submitted a formal transfer request to help speed up the deal.
It’s understood that Antony’s representatives will remain in England until next weeks transfer deadline, to try and get the deal completed. Personal terms are not thought to be an issue, with a five-year contract already in place.
Club sources are now feeling good about their chances of sealing a deal, with a little help from Edwin van der Sar, whose positive relationship with both United and Ajax has made this transfer a little easier to work on.
Hopefully, we’re not waiting too long for an official announcement.
