Well, it’s official. Manchester United have confirmed the Donny van de Beek signing, with the Dutchman putting pen to paper on his Red Devils contract.
I’ve been the first to critique the Old Trafford club this summer, so I’ll praise them in equal measure. Credit to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Edward Woodward – who have gone about this deal quietly-but-effectively.
The 20-time Premier League champions confirmed the signing yesterday.
Then, the official @ManUtd Twitter account gave us all a photo of Van de Beek wearing the United shirt for the first time. He was all-smiles, looking pretty happy with himself.

The midfielder offers Solskjaer an extra dimension. He’s ready to make the step up from the Eredivisie to the Premier League – and I can’t wait to see him in action.
For now, he’ll link up with his Netherlands teammates, before heading to Manchester ahead of the season’s start in just over one week’s time. For United, their first game is against Crystal Palace on September 19th.
Hopefully, Van de Beek comes away from international duty unscathed and he can get at least a few training sessions in over the next fortnight. That’d give him every chance at playing some part in United’s season opener.
Upon signing for United, Donny van de Beek said:
“I cannot begin to explain how incredible an opportunity it is to join a club with such an amazing history.
“I would like to thank everyone at Ajax. I grew up there and I will always have a special bond with the club.
“I am now ready to take the next step in my career and perform at the highest level and there is no higher standard than Manchester United.
“Everyone has told me how amazing the Old Trafford atmosphere is and I am looking forward to experiencing that, once it is safe for the fans to return.
“This team has some of the best midfielders in the world and I know that I can learn from them and also bring my own strengths to the group.
“Having spoken to the manager about his vision for this team, the direction that the club is going in is hugely exciting and I cannot wait to be a part of that.”
Then, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated:
“Donny has all of the technical attributes needed to perform in this team and has the personality required to succeed at Manchester United.
“His ability to see space, time his movements and read the game will really complement the qualities that we have in midfield and his arrival really strengthens the depth of talent we have in that position.
“Donny’s performances in the Eredivisie and in Europe have been excellent over the last few years and we are all looking forward to working with him.”
Welcome to the biggest club in the country, Donny!
