Man United have confirmed the extent of the latest Lisandro Martinez injury blow – and it’s not good news…
Manchester United Football Club played a pretty solid game against West Ham United on Sunday, eventually running out 3-0 winners and sending their fans home happy.
Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund scored the goals for the Red Devils, as Erik ten Hag’s side overtook The Hammers in the table. However, the victory came at one big loss, as Lisandro Martinez picked up another injury.
The Argentine was involved in a heavy tackle midway through the second half. Despite his best efforts to play on, Licha succumbed to the injury shortly after, heading straight down the tunnel.
In terms of the early indication, Ten Hag didn’t sound overly upbeat about the severity of the injury. Now, those fears have been confirmed.
The club have today confirmed that Martinez has suffered an injury to the medial lateral ligament, and will be out of action for at least eight weeks.
This is the second time we’ve lost Licha to a multi-month injury this term, with the ex-Ajax man simply unable to catch a break at this point in time.
Honestly, it’s just a gutting bit of news. He’s by far and away our best defender and matches will be much tougher without him on the field. Not only due to his defensive qualities, but also his leadership and on-ball skill.
At this point, I’m wondering if it’s best for Licha just to sit out for the rest of the season and come back hungry with a point to prove over the summer.
Get well soon, Licha!
