On the field, not much is going right for Manchester United. Despite good signings made over the summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is lacking in cutting edge and sticking the ball into the back of the net.
Problems are arising off the field, too… The injuries are piling and now, Solskjaer finds himself a staff member down.
According to the usually excellent Rob Dawson, United have confirmed that key staff member, Emilio Alvarez, has left the club. The goalkeeper coach made the move to the Theatre of Dreams in 2016 and is a close friend of David de Gea. But, somewhat surprisingly, Alvarez has now departed…
This now means Solskjaer doesn’t have a goalkeeper-specific coach on his books, though no doubt that void will be filled as soon as the club identify the correct replacement.
For De Gea, he’ll obviously be sad to see his friend leave Manchester, particularly after committing his long-term future to Old Trafford, but maybe it’s for the best.
De Gea has made a few mistakes under his watch recently and maybe what the Spaniard needs is a change. Working with someone who brings fresh ideas to the table often works, and United will be hoping for that to happen here.
