Tyrell Malacia will wear the number 12 shirt at Man United.
Manchester United Football Club made Tyrell Malacia their first summer signing earlier this week, with the Dutchman having a whirlwind week!
The left-back Malacia was pictured in pre-season training for the first time yesterday, before the Dutchman prepares to jet off to Bangkok with the rest of the squad later today.
Malacia’s busy week continued, with United confirming what shirt number he’ll wear for the 2022/23 season.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Malacia has been handed the number 12 jersey, which was last worn by Chris Smalling before his move to AS Roma.
Malacia, albeit an unknown quantity, will be welcomed with open arms by we supporters. After all, we’re desperate for a major squad overhaul and the 22-year-old is the first signing of hopefully many.
I’m definitely intrigued by the prospect of what he can offer, particularly as Luke Shaw continues to blow hot and cold.
If Malacia impresses on tour, starting with a game against Liverpool next week, there’s no reason why he cannot make that left-back position his own. That said, if the Dutchman needs time to settle into his new surroundings, the club are in an excellent position to remain patient.
The fact that Erik ten Hag has watched this kid in the flesh on numerous occasions definitely leaves me feeling excited. Our new Dutch boss feels like this guy is perfect for his system and style, particularly if the video below is anything to go by.
Hopefully, Malacia can hit the ground running, adjust to his new home and feel comfortable with his new dressing room from the get-go. I’m genuinely thrilled with this piece of business, so let’s hope it pays off for us!
