Man United are looking at potentially cancelling Facundo Pellistri’s loan at Alaves.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s manchester United squad is so deep that there’s simply not enough first-team minutes to go around. With that in mind, some fringe players inevitably have to leave on loan.

Amongst that group is Facundo Pellistri, who signed for the Red Devils last summer from Penarol. The Uruguayan looked good for the Reds at reserve team level, before heading out on loan to January.

The winger would go to Alaves where he’d impress at the back end of the 2020/21 term. Understandably, it was a pretty straightforward decision to send Pellistri back to the La Liga club for the full 2021/22 term.

However, it’s fair to say it hasn’t gone as planned. Pellistri has started just one league game so far this campaign, leaving United disappointed.

According to Noticias Dealava, with the transcription coming from the Manchester Evening News liveblog, United are considering the termination of the 19-year-old’s loan move due to a lack of playing time.

Obviously, United assumed he’d just go straight back into the Alaves side after looking good for them last term. For one reason or another, that hasn’t been the case.

These loan moves are pretty pointless when the regular playing time doesn’t follow – and if there’s a clause within his contract allowing United to recall Pellistri back early, then don’t be surprised to see that activated pretty sharpish.

That’s not to suggest Pellistri will then walk straight into the team at United. Rather, he’d probably play some U23 football until January, then presumably head back out on loan until the season’s end. Admittedly, there’s always a risk with these loan deals as playing time is by no means a guarantee. But let’s wait and see what happens…
