An Ethan Galbraith first-team promotion may not be too far away, as the Northern Irishman continues to impress and improve.
Manchester United and youth have always walked hand-in-hand. To his credit, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t shied away from giving the next generation their first-team opportunities.
From Mason Greenwood to Brandon Williams, and Marcus Rashford to Scott McTominay. All have had their chances. Now, Ethan Galbraith may well be next in line.
The story comes from the Manchester Evening News, who state that United could promote the talented 19-year-old to the first-team squad on a permanent basis.
Galbraith, a midfielder, made his full debut in last season’s Europa League against Astana. He also played in United’s only pre-season game against Aston Villa just last month.
In regards to his short-term future, the MEN state that he’s unlikely to go out on loan this term, which hints that Solskjaer does see the midfielder as part of his plans at Old Trafford.
It was two years ago when Galbraith signed his first pro deal, giving you the impression that United firmly believe in the Northern Irishman. Now, it looks like his time is coming.
This is exactly what Manchester United is all about. Galbraith has matured over the last few seasons he has been a Red Devil. Now, it’s about continuing his development and the player taking that next step.
Could Ethan Galbraith realistically play in the first-team this season?
Absolutely. That’s despite the fact midfield is probably where United are the most well-stocked at the moment.
It’ll be tough for him to play in Premier League matches, granted. However, as an option in the cup competitions, or even off the bench, we’re looking at someone who brings something different to the table.
Hopefully, we’ll all get to see Galbraith follow in Greenwood’s footsteps, with a view to becoming a regular first-team player at some point this term.
