Man United considering fresh bid for Bruno Fernandes: report

Manchester United Football Club need to invest in this playing squad before the end of this transfer window if they have any chance at success this season. That much is obvious.

So far, the Red Devils have been extremely quiet – despite the major need for at least a couple of signings in one or two key areas. The rumour that keeps popping up is Bruno Fernandes to Man United. We’ve been covering that story extensively all January.

Today, Jamie Jackson has given us another update in The Guardian. He writes that United are considering a ‘fresh’ bid for the 25-year-old, with negotiations set to be ramped up before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Apparently, United had an offer of £38m plus add-ons rejected by Sporting Lisbon. Although the clubs are prepared to compromise, the fees have so far been too far apart.

Now, there is believed to be a renewed push from United’s side. The lines of communications are still open, though the Reds may go up to a base price of £45m (plus add-ons) in an effort to sign Fernandes.

At this stage, the rumour is just getting a bit tedious. I get it, this is business and both parties want the best possible deal for them. However, sometimes a club of United’s stature just have to bite the bullet and pay whatever it takes to push a deal over the line.

United are desperate for a creative spark. Look at his numbers, Fernandes is exactly that. Whether he can cut the mustard in the Premier League is a legitimate question, but United simply have to take the risk at this point – or they’ll only slide down the table as opposed to moving up it.

It’s just a sad situation. The biggest, greatest club in the country seemingly aren’t prepared to spend the money that they’ve earned during the mid-season window.
