Man United considering January move for Mario Mandzukic: report

At the time, Manchester United’s decision to part with Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku was met with glee. Now, though, with the injuries piling, perhaps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was wrong to thin the squad and not sign replacements.

Well, according to Goal, United are now considering a January move for the 33-year-old front-man, Mario Mandzukic – as Solskjaer looks to improve upon his forward options following time spent on the treatment table by key players.

Goal add that the Croatia international was somewhat close to an Old Trafford move over the summer, though that move came up short due to the Reds’ failed pursuit of Paulo Dybala.

At the time, I was sceptical. Manduzkic isn’t getting any younger and now he’s into the latter parts of his career. Is a stop-gap what United need at this point in time? Probably not. I’d much prefer to see the club go for a long-term option. Someone who can make an impact for several seasons rather than just a few months.

If that means missing out on signing someone in January then so be it. Solskjaer is trying to build a squad around a certain type of player, and the fans are willing to give him the time he needs – particularly as the Baby Faced Assassin has already shown his astuteness in the transfer market…
